Having A Healthy Self-Image

Who do you THINK you are and what is "your" opinion about yourself based on?

Our self-image is often based on our perception of how others see us in the world, NOT how we feel about ourselves. Self-imagine is the way you interpret and think about yourself.

We try to manage the way other people see us. We do this by controlling what we wear, the car we drive, and how we present ourselves to the world.

My mentor Brooke Castillo uses a metaphor to explain this concept best.

Imagine you lived on an island by yourself. What if you were the only one that saw your body, touched your body and experienced your body. What would you most want on that island for your body? How would you feel if you had nothing to prove or no one to impress?

This concept blew my mind and helped shine a light on the FACTS. I cared about how others viewed my body MORE than how I saw my body.

Take everyone else out of the picture and ask yourself.

  • What bothers you about how you show up, and why?
  • What doesn't worry you about how you show up that should?
  • And what feels the best for your body and why?
  • It's fascinating to stop and ask yourself, "What is your opinion of yourself based on"?
  • Is it based on what other people think about you and pleasing others?
  • Is your self-imagine based on your need to be liked or admired by other people?
  • AND does that match how you think and feel about yourself?

Years ago, I created this self-image that I believed everyone expected of me. I built my self-image beliefs around my job title of being a Personal Trainer and a Yoga Teacher. As a result, people looked up to me to be a role model and a teacher "in my mind".

These limiting beliefs created the feeling of needing to always be in prime shape, which leads to feeling like a failure, presenting as a fraud and not living up to everyone's expectations of me.

Doing "The Work" Byron Katie empowered me with the resources and new beliefs on what I TRULY believe about myself. MY TRUTH!

I have now arrived at a place where I am now pretty opinionated about myself and what is important to me in this world. Fortunately, my opinion is so loud that it drowns out what "other" people think about me.

What people think about me is none of my business. It's what I feel about myself that matters."

Oh, and if you were wondering, I feel fabulous with how I show up.

When it comes to what I wear, my partner's opinion is important to me, but I wear what makes me feel good at the end of the day. Therefore, I talk positively to myself rather than listen to negative chatter.

"To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don't need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself."

Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love. It's not who you are that holds you back; it's who you think you're not.

Don't ever doubt your worth.

Happiness is an inside job!

Yours in health and happiness
